Hi I’m Sonja Vahasaari, 24 yo Finnish designer and surfer living in Australia. I would love to introduce you Savari Swimwear. Savari is my sustainable swim and surf wear label which was launched about a year ago.
It all started when I wanted to combine my passion for sustainability, environment, surf and design. I grew up in Finland, where sustainability and recycling are taken seriously and they are part of our every day lives – as they should be for all of us. My mother taught me in early age that you should never litter the nature – you should preserve it. I left Finland to travel the world when I was 18, and I was shocked how terrible a lot of countries are in recycling and offering sustainable options.
Currently I live in Australia and I really want to change the way people think about recycling and sustainability here. I’ve been passionate about creating and designing my entire life and I have always dreamed of my label. I wanted to combine my passion for fashion and recycling. And I am beyond stoked to finally have my own sustainable brand.
Manufactured in Bali
I have a lovely, small team in Bali, who manufacture Savari and bring my designs alive. They are also passionate about recycling and the environment, so they make sure they do their part in the manufacturing process. We donate monthly to charities who help cleaning plastic out of our beautiful oceans. But also to other organisations who do our planet good.
Savari Swimwear’s designs are inspired by the beauty of Australia, combined with Finnish design, and they are hand drawn by me. Last year I also started drawing the patterns myself too. The main goal of Savari Swimwear is to raise the awareness of the plastic pollution. One of the biggest environmental issues we have on this planet, whilst having fun, groove in the sun and enjoying the life. I love everything about Savari and I love what I can do with it. I am so proud where it is at and sooo grateful for everyone who has supported me.
By buying a piece of SAVARI you are Supporting:
- An organisation that plants a tree with every order we make with them,
- Ocean cleaning as our swimwear is made of recycled ocean plastic waste,
- Different organisations as we donate monthly to organisations that do our planet good (take3forthesea, 4ocean, bushfires etc.)
- A small family business in Bali who manufactures our swimwear.
